Lutoslawski-Style Cutaway Lines

I would like to have cutaway sections in the score with straight and wavy lines a la Lutoslawski. I can create the cutaway, and I can create the bar, but whenever I try to create both at the same time, it does not work. How do I do that? Thanks!

Hi @Glenn_Greenberg, and welcome to the Forum.
If you use the automatic cutaway functionality from Layout Options, once you insert an item (the line for example) those bars will not be empty anymore, so the cutaway will not be applied to them. Instead you can use manual cutaways (select the bar rests, right click>Staff>Create Manual Cutaway). You can then apply the lines, with start and end point set to barlines. You may want to create them selecting something before the start barline and after the end barline of the cutaway, them moving the end control points as desired to snap to the barline. You can copy and paste the lines, as well as the cutaway signposts elsewhere or move to staff above/below etc…):

Result:

Dorico file example:
manual cutaways with wiggly lines and custom repeat lines.dorico (1.5 MB)

That worked great, thanks!!!

Hi all,

Reviving this thread with a question. I have a similar need. I’ve noticed that when I apply a line to a manual cutaway that spans a page break, the line does not show up properly. It only shows up in the page that includes the end point, but not the page that includes the start point. Am I missing something? Is there a way around this? Video link attached for reference. Thank you!
