Lyric elision doesn't work when adding additional text to a syllable

I’m working on Spanish lyrics in a hymn which occassionally need elisions between syllables. Generally the underline character works but the first syllable in the song needs a verse number and a label which I added in the edit single lyric menu item. The underline no longer changes to an elision. How do I change this? I’m using Georgia as the lyric font. Thank you.

I was thinking that if I could figure out what character Dorico was changing the underline to, I could copy and paste it. But currently I haven’t been able to figure that out.

The underline has to be interpreted by the popover, to be converted to an elision.

If you add an underline to the Lyric editor, then you’ll get an underline.

Thank you for your response, Benwiggy… Not sure I understand what you mean. I originally typed the syllable in the popover, but needed to add the additional information.

OH MY, thank you!! I see what you mean. I deleted the syllable and typed it all into the popover and it worked. HOWEVER, I need to edit the word Spanish to be italic. When I went into the lyric editor to do that, the underline went back to an underline…

Select the syllable. The Properties panel has a switch for Italic; or you can set the Paragraph Style for that syllable to one of the Lyric styles that is in Italic.

If you are entering your lyrics in a text editor/word processor and then pasting into Dorico, you could use the Unicode symbol U+203F for an elision. That will paste as an elision in Dorico.

Thank you, James. Yes, I am pasting in the lyrics. I will try that.

ah, ok, I will test this out as well. Thank you.
