I’m either not understanding something, or I’ve found something Dorico doesn’t do well! If I have a single syllable on a whole note, I like to have an extender after the text (especially when there’s plenty of room). The only way I’ve found to accomplish this is to shorten the whole note, duplicate the shorter note, and then space after the lyric…THEN convert back to a whole note and edit the extension in engraving mode. This seems borderline crazy (since there are a lot in this piece). Is there an easier path?
That’s not the standard convention for extension lines. They go from one notehead to another – they don’t just float out to empty space.
If you want to do that, you’ll have to do that manually.

What you could do is input the unicode character FF3F _(full width spacing underscore) to simulate a lyric extender. I think there are some other unicode underscore characters you might look at as well. You will have to adjust how many underscores you put to make it line up properly and probably adjust the lyric alignment.
I can’t remembering ever seeing any choral/vocal music that has an extender on a whole note. I’d be interested to know what publishers do that.
