Hi.
Is it possible to display a video track in one song on the same monitor as the Lyric Track in another song? I haven’t found a way to display the Lyric Track on any of the video monitors.
No, Lyrics cannot be displayed on video monitor until you make such video to imitate Lyrics appearance.
Sadly the only workaround that I can imagine also doesn’t work. Maybe others can help?
What I tried - Song 1 has Lyrics on Display 2 - it’s a detached lyrics frame maximized in second monitor. Song 2 has Video on Display 2, but while Song 1 is active, the video monitor shows black screen over the Lyrics window. If the video monitor would go off if there is no video in the song, then this method would be right for you.
Hmm, it works like @ArthurNeeman suggested, but only if lyrics need to be displayed in song 1 and the video in song 2.
This is how it works:
You need to setup a shortcut (Devices->Actions & Shortcuts) to activate the desired video view. For example, create a MIDI shortcut for video view 1: set the input to Virtual MIDI In 1 and Note On 69 as the trigger for that view. Now, in your song, create a MIDI track and route it to Virtual MIDI Out 1. At the desired position draw that note. Now VL will open the video view as soon as the song position reaches that position.
The lyrics view can be automated as described above. However, the lyrics will never be placed on top of the video view, even if you disable “always on top” in the video view options. And there’s - to my knowledge - also no way to close the video view via shortcuts. That’s why this only works once, and in one direction only.
Maybe @Spork or @musicullum find the time to consider this for future versions?
place a second midi note. the action toggles the view state, it opens when not visible, and vice versa.
As for a view beeing on top or not, unless “Always on Top” is activated for any view (video, plugin editors etc), the stacking order is managed by the Operating System afaik.
I tried that from the start. Didn’t work. The video monitor stayed open and on top the lyrics view.
just did that here. Has to be the same note of course. I can even click the keyboard note in the MIDI editor to open and close the video view
Yes, I did that. Double checked with the MIDI monitor.
But I forgot to say, I’m on Mac here, Tahoe.
Ah - if the video view is not always on top, it will open, but possibly be hidden behind other windows. That we can improve and raise the view, fixed next version.
Not quite. At my place the video view is always on top of other windows, no matter if the AOT flag is set nor not. And that’s the problem here: with the video view active all other windows will be hidden behind that window. And the video view will not close by resending the same MIDI remote command.
I just thought - when could you have such a situation - lyrics and video on the same monitor? On stage? Do you watch video when you don’t sing or do audience read lyrics while you singing? Just curious.
I am making a show with my children for their school. I want to use VL for it. They are going to sing a songs. We have found some files in karaoke version - video files with text and we have some audio files without text for other songs and we are going to make lyric tracks for these songs. So we would like to send this video to special monitor for singers. I don’t like to do lyric tracks for songs which already have video with text.
As a workaround … screencapture the VST Live lyrics and use only video?
I would say the easiest way would be to use free video making software to put beautiful images and/or short videos together and put lyrics in right place, where on audio track you listen source. Then render only video and add it to VL project. I would do that way.
Okay, at least now we know why you asked this. The Karaoke. I almost felt that this was exactly what was needed, therefore I asked, for what you need that. And the childrens! This is a hook
So this could be a new feature request and why not? (Or maybe this was asked before?)
Let me imagine how it could be - like we already have target for lyrics track - a Visualizer for Audience page - there in the selection list could be all possible Monitors. So for every song (maybe for every part) you can target lyrics differently.
Additionally with the target selector there could be an option - Karaoke (disabled if target is (nc) ). Unchecked it will show lyrics as they are now - scrolling (also on video frame), but checked - it will work like all karaoke apps do - the text appears shortly before it begins to highlight the current word in a different color. Text on video will be with darker border to make text recognizable when background color is similar to text color.
Yes, that’s exactly what I wrote. At least that’s what I thought, but maybe my English wasn’t perfect ![]()
No, no. My English is not perfect
it is not native language
