Is there a way to get a question mark at the end of an lyrics extender line?
Currently I can only manage to achieve this version, but not reliable…
input syllable → space → question mark
I’ve never seen such a configuration. The question mark should follow the last syllable, in my experience.
The only way I could make that happen would be to add it as staff text, and then move it into position.
Agreed, any punctuation usually goes with the syllable, before the extender.
Welcome to the forum, @Thomas_Schuch!
I believe some German publishers do put punctation on the end of an extension line. (At least it’s not the final consonant!!)
There’s no built-in way, but you could:
- Add the ? as a separate syllable.
- Sub-divide the preceeding note.
- Type ‘var’ into the popover, and press Space, to get an extension line to your subdivided note.
- Manually adjust the extension line.
- Tie the subdivided note.
Obviously, with small distances, you’ll need to make the minimum line length quite short.
Thanks for the workaround!
If there is a harmonic change at the end of the extension, I can see the benefit of having the “?” at the end. In this case I briefly took a look into various editions - Baerenreiter at the end, first edition Breitkopf before the extension line and in Mozarts manuscript there is no ? at all…
