Lyrics extends outside the margins

I have a few places where the last syllable on a system is long and extends into the margin and overlaps with the hyphen. How do I fix it? I tried moving the note over, but that just makes it closer to the previous note, it doesn’t move it away from the bar line.

Question 2
I have a piece that has 6 verses. In page view, on the bottom system, 4 of the verses are below the margin and off the page. How do I fix it?

Hi @scarryer, it would be better to see the Dorico file to see the context (if you are willing to post it here)

First question:
One possible solution is to apply a system break, so that the bar with long syllable is on the next system, or adjusting the note spacings (locally with Note Spacing changes) manually in Engrave mode-Note Spacing

Second question:

you can :

  • decrease the Ideal Gaps values for Vertical Spacing in Layout options

or

  • (in case this happen on all the pages more or less) increase the bottom music frame margins in Layout options/Page Setup

or

  • use the concertina dragging from the bottom staff up, to shrink the spacing and win some space at the bottom

or

  • create a customised Page template, applied only to the affected page, where the music frame lower edge is dragged higher

etc…

I tried using Note Spacing in Engrage Mode, but I can’t move the last note AWAY from the barline, it moves closer to the previous note and make the bar shorter. Dorico doesn’t seem to recognized that there is lyrics that run into the margin and needs to space the music accordingly.

Between systems Dorico recognized all the lyrics and spaces the music correctly. But it doesn’t do that for the bottom margin.

Can you post your project to see what is going on (the Dorico file itself, because from a screenshot there is no context) ?(you seem to have some big spacing /sizing for flow headings, and page margins, etc…) probably is an easy fix. And after setting all correctly globally, you can try :

Correct, Dorico does not take lyrics into account when spacing vertically.
