Lyrics function too poor to go

Hi everyone ! I thought that switching to VST Live 3 would solve the big “lyrics” problem. But not, I spent money for nothing. To me, the need for a good live software is to get synchronized lyrics and informations (counts, notes, etc..). But at that time, what I see is : only one font in one colour and synchonization pbs : not enough to get the performer “easy”. And some questions arrive : why is the “colour” function is so strange ? (for changing colour of a line : select/changing colour/OK/re-change colour/OK - because the first change doesn’t go), why moving the lyrics tracks is so tricky" ? (sometimes the lyrics even disappear…), why does the lyrics lane (on track view) is longer and continue after the song end ? (right locator and end marker). Why the text editing must be in the same window ? (dragging text block to make space cannot be scrolled down). For the moment, (and once again) I must stop hoping a live show with VST Live…May be one day, the lyrics menu will get a real “word processing” allowing different colours, text boxes for chords and notes. I hope so ! All good ideas are welcome !

You are right in all points you mentioned.
Now you know that your way of thinking and your needs aren’t compatible with this software.

There is free trial and you were able to test all your needs on this software. So the “money for nothing” isn’t new song. Old good by Dire Straits.

All others are using it with lyrics on stage and if anyone have problems or needs, they are asking and talking with developers and other users and do that a little kinder than you just expressed your anger. Also kind responses will sculpt your further opinion and mood and after a week or more you will see that first sight on this software was like first trying to ride a bycicle.

I would skip about “word processing” because VST Live have it in Notes, but thankfully they didn’t implement it in Lyrics. Also chords are beside of lyrics. Also notes and score can be displayed and scrolled. You just didn’t test your free trial version and bought after watching intro video. Now learn it and use it like we do!

It’s very complex system. Therefore they call it Advanced Live Performance System. It means that it is not a calculator where 2+2=4. Here 1x1+8/4x2x0.5+4x0.25 will lead you to the stage. Yes, that simple!

Have a nice road to success!

I am also using this software, but i asked many times the dev’s to improve the usability of the lyrics, chords, midi handling. For me is the Mods-app the most important thing, because all band-members bought an i-pad to use VL. (and Mods is really unstable …)
At the moment, i am thinking that the only one thing that matters, is the video-thing. I am not using the video director (don’t know what for ..) but i want a good live - playback- lyric - guide - software. I don’t know if this software will return to its basic feature … but i am waiting

Andi

To be honest, I was thinking about to place lyrics/chords into the video stream to get it worked

Aaah, yes, sorry, I look on VST Live as a single machine that can do everything for single performer and for a group on the stage. It works well providing Lyrics, MIDI and automations in sync with backing tracks. That’s why I jumped in this world of ALPS.

Mods. More different devices - more possibilities that something can always get stuck because of incompatibility even if there everything should be okay. I still refrain from using them.

Been asking for the lyrics improvement from the time of VSTL launch. I barely use VST Live now. This is such a fantastic program, but has too many bugs. And development priorities I understand are not to my needs. Found alternatives. I just got tired of asking and decided to move on.

Works for some, not so much for me ATM.

I feel like if you put a 30 minutes into lining your lyrics up, it works fine. I don’t need LINE BY LINE accuracy because I’m not doing karaoke. I just need to a quick glance to remind myself that this line starts with “mile” instead of “style” (for example), and VST Live does that. But I do have to spend a few minutes making things line up. Once they are, they stay in place.

And, if things asked and not implemented, it doesn’t mean that programmers don’t want to do that. There are hundreds of little obstacles and other tasks that makes a long list of priorities and things to do. The same in other programs.

For example, Cubase 15 - added reverse mouse scrolling for project area - asked for 10 years or more.

Some of us went to ableton with ableset and everything just works.

And that’s fine! This move does not change anything for the remaining users. The main thing is that you can realize your dreams. We successfully do this with VST Live.

Drop here a video where you perform your gig using ableton. Just interesting how others are doing

Cheers!

If you’re really interested, you can watch how Ableset 3 controls Abolton Live here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYepEzl6Y0Q

I know enough about ableton and ableset. Watched videos just to not look myself stupid in discussions  Cheapest combination is some $600 and I’m sure it won’t make me happy at all. Especially the songs management (pseudo setlist) that is one timeline like in Cubase powered by markers/regions. Okay, the pads help to quickly switch to songs, but in any case it’s far from the VST Live version 1 which have scrolling Lyrics from the very beginning, but ableton isn’t made for that.

So my rating - VST Live isn’t comparable to Ableton with any existing additions (Max, Ableset etc). Ableton can be compared to Cubase, if you want, but not VST Live.

I very much suggest to maintain a friendly, constructive atmosphere here! Something doesn’t work or could be done better in VST Live? Let’s talk about it, but, please, without a condescending attitude or flaming of any kind.

I also think it’s only fair to ask you not to discuss other softwares in too great detail. There are better suited places on the Net to do that. :slightly_smiling_face:

As always: it’s ok to critizise, but not ok to post claims like that. If there are bugs, name them, but don’t make such claims, it is very unfair because when someone who is considering to buy a product reads its forum threads (good idea), he or she may decide to abandon it right from the start when reading it, where it might have been a good choice for his or her particular needs. And as ever so often, see here fore different opinions.
