Lyrics make cubase 14 crash : the dash?

Writing lyrics feels to slow cpu A LOT, and could make cubase crash : i think it comes from the fact that i write some idea in the very end of the midi track 10 minutes later on the track, so, when i add lyrics at minute 3 (for exemple), it looks like it calculate how long is the dash after. It may be a lead.
Thx

are you using the Score Editor to add Lyrics? Can you share a project file where you see it crash reliably at a specific position? Does this crash generate a .dmp file you could make available for further investigation?

→ Yes. The worst part are not even the crashes, it’s when i write lyrics : it takes seconds after spacebar or dash to just calculate something, display the lyrics, and go to the next note.

→ I didn’t identify clearly when it happens : i cannot create the crash myself when i want it.

→ Yes. I sent it. I join them here too.
Cubase 14.0.10 64bit2025.3.7 14.55.50.900.dmp (1,5 Mo)
Cubase 14.0.10 64bit2025.3.8 11.13.15.915.dmp (1,4 Mo)
The last one happens when i try to move a lyrics back under a note i just shorted.

Thx.

thanks for providing some more detail. In this instance I haven’t been able to spot the exact problem, and also haven’t managed to reproduce the problem.

It’s also not expected for lyric writing to take seconds to update. Are you using a particularly large project? Does it behave better if you only show a single track in the score at a time?

I’ll try to keep an eye on editing lyrics. If you come across a situation that feels problematic in a consistent manner, please do let us know.

→ Not really :

In this screenshot you can see the selected midi files on the tracks where I work on, and the midi files way after are ideas I keep in the tank. Maybe each spacebar/dash calculate something to match with these files way after.

→ Indeed. It works way faster with only one midi file selected and displayed on the scoreeditor. I can deal with it, but it’s more confortable for me to display all the tracks.

Thank you very much for your concern.

Hi,

Update to the latest Cubase 14.0.20, please.

I did, but unfortunatly it do not solve the problems.
→ I really think it’s a bit better when i change lyrics in between others. It feels very slower when i add lyrics in the end of my midi file.

Here is a new crash dmp
Cubase 14.0.20 64bit2025.3.14 18.09.16.215.dmp (1,2 Mo)
→ It happens the same way than the other : 1 • in the midi editor, i moved a note a quarter note back (or front). 2 • in the score editor, I drag the lyrics onto the note i just moved back (or front). 3 • in the sequencer, I shorted the midi files a little bit.

Thank you very much for your concern.

It looks like there’s something else going on in this crash dump that isn’t directly connected to the lyrics. One of the threads is doing something with expression map directions at the time of the crash. So I think there’s something specific in this project that is causing the problem.

A couple of requests:

  • Could you please send a copy of this project (or a cut-down one that reproduces the problem)? You can send me a DM if you don’t want to post it here.
  • Could you describe the exact steps to reproduce the crash?
