For the space as part of a lyric: Shift+Alt+Space
For the hyphen: Alt+-
So in your case, “m”, “a”, Shift+Alt+Space, Alt+-, Shift+Alt+Space, “l”, “i”.
Then - will bring the popover to the following note and create the second hyphen between “li” and “lig”.
Yes, that’s possible
Use the Lyrics popover and enter Alt/Opt Hyphen
Edit: @charles_piano was quicker, and mentioned the extra spaces which I overlooked
This is not really the ideal way, I think. It simply doesn’t look right, and makes the syllable quite wide. Better to use the note input caret, navigate to the exact rhythmic spot, and invoke the lyric popover there. Much better.
You can invoke the lyric popover at any rhythmic position this way, even if there is no note there.
Fantastic, Dan! I have never heard this in relation to lyrics.
..a sentence I will have to modify tomorrow “there is a way to do this, as @dan_kreider explains in this thread”:
Nope. You see it’s too long. It’s an En-dash (a dash that has the width of an N)
For a real hyphen, U-2011 is perfect. Add some small unbreakable spaces before and after (U-202f) and it will be really perfect.
Yes, you’re right.
I looked it up in the manual, and tried this while educating myself, and didn’t notice the hyphen was too long.
Thanks a lot @dan_kreider, I really didn’t know that!
That’s because even though the glyphs are different code points, in your particular font they are the same design.
