MAC > Triggering macros with keyboard shortcuts

I’ve been having issues triggering some macros with keyboard shortcuts. They work for a while then they don’t, then they do - rather inconsistent.

I’ve set up a custom playing technique under Write > Playing Techniques > Guitar > called ‘Letter S’, that simply adds a letter S (it’s not important, could be anything).

To trigger this, I’ve recorded a macro (Start Recording Macro > [click playing technique] > End Recording Macro > Save as ‘Letter S’).

I’ve tried two methods to trigger the macro, but both methods are inconsistent.
[1] Mac OS system level shortcut System Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > App Shortcuts
[2] Mac app ‘Keyboard Maestro’ Select Menu in Dorico > (Menu Title) Script (Menu Item) Letter S

Both of these work just fine (obviously, when not run together, I’ve separately tested both), but inconsistently. They’re great for a while, then something happens and they fail.

I wonder if anyone has any insight into this? I’m ensuring that the conditions are correct for the script to be effective, and indeed manually clicking the playing technique still works, so why would the keyboard shortcuts fail to trigger the script?

What is the key command you are using? My first thought is that something else is competing/conflicting for the key.

I’m using the following range, all of which I’ve cleared by entering them into an unassigned Preferences > Key Commands item to test for a Dorico conflict:

control+alt+command + [keypad 0-9]

Could the OS or some other app be using those keys?

Or, when they stop working, does the menu bar still flash? Does Dorico’s logs report any activity when you press those keys?
