Hi, I have similar issues, using a Mac laptop with a dock, I keep losing my connection setups and also it is difficult to use the headphone out on the go.
Aggregate devices kind of work for me but have a tendency to reorder when a given device is not up and the volatile nature of the headphone out (which only appears when plugged in) is difficult to deal with.
So I am trying Audiomovers Omnibus and it seems to do everything I like (ie present Cubase with the same virtual ports and organized in the same way, whether or not the physical device is connected or running), meaning I don’t have to fiddle with connections anymore.
However, at $140 when a global “save/restore” for connections in Cubase would make me happy, I have not decided whether I’m purchasing it or not…
Still, for your specific use case, I am able to plug / unplug / replug headphones while Cubase is playing without it stopping or needing reconfiguration.
