MacOS 27 Golden Gate

YMMV, don’t upgrade on a production machine you depend on for income!!

That said, happy to report that I haven’t seen any issues yet w/ Cubase 15 pro (fully up to date) on M1 Max Mac Studio. If anything, performance seems slightly better. I run a 600+ track composing template with a lot of pre-configured busses, FX aux tracks and SSL channel strips on every track. I use a lot of PLE macros for show/hide/enabling instruments.

Maybe Apple actually delivered more of a Snow Leopard type release for once w/ a focus on stability and fewer breaking changes. It’s certainly better than Tahoe so far (ignoring the increased AI integration that’s being forced on us - that’s another topic in itself).

Yeah I was off yesterday so I grabbed the update right at 10am. Went through 4 or 5 projects and everything seems fine here as usual. I honestly can’t recall the last time I had issues upgrading, maybe during the OS 9 to Mac OS X stuff, or when 32 bit binaries got dropped heh..

Got the usual email from Eventide about their plugins not being compatible, but I have them all over these projects, and everything was fine for me..

Even my trusty old Emagic AMT8 is still working as it should.

Mac Mini M2 Pro/C15.0.30, RME Digiface USB, etc, etc..

So can you turn off some of the AI ?

I’m still on Sequoia because I want as little AI as is possible.

Siri AI is still an opt-in beta at this point. Otherwise, just turn Siri off. I’ve never had it enabled on my desktop as I’m not about to fire up all my gear, plug in some $500 microphone just to ask it to find me directions somewhere heh.

Cubase 15Pro, WaveLab and VST Live work just as well as they did.

No issues to report so far here and if anything performance is much better

Happy to report the same: M2 Max MacBook Pro running up to date C15, no problems and definitely no cpu increase as far as I can see.

Steve.

Guys–I though we all agreed to stay on Sequoia until at least next year.

Refresh my memory, why did we agree to that ?

I thought we agreed to stay on OS 9 LoL

You must be only one I’m afraid…

No issues here as well (Cubase Pro 15, MacBook M2 Pro).

Cubase Pro 14 on macOS 27 (Golden Gate), no note-offs received, all notes hang

Every note I play from my MIDI keyboard hangs in Cubase Pro 14. The note starts and never stops, whatever instrument I use. MIDI Reset clears them.

I recently updated to macOS 27, so that may be the trigger, but I honestly can’t confirm it. I hadn’t played the keyboard for a while before the update, so I don’t know whether this was already happening on macOS 26. Has anyone else run into the same thing?

What I’ve tested so far:

  • Two different Novation controllers, a Launchkey MK4 49 and an FLkey Mini. Identical behaviour on both. Firmware is up to date on both via Novation Components.
  • Every key, not just some. Every plugin too: Spitfire, EastWest Opus, Kontakt.
  • Clicking notes on Cubase’s Virtual Keyboard works correctly. They release as expected, so the plugins and the audio engine are fine.
  • FL Studio on the same machine with the same keyboards has no problem at all. Notes release normally there.
  • MIDI Monitor insert shows only Note On events when I press a key, with nothing on release.
  • MIDI Port Setup: unticked “In All MIDI Inputs” for the DAW port, leaving only the MIDI port. No change.
  • Track input set explicitly to the single MIDI port instead of All MIDI Inputs. No change.
  • MIDI Remote: removed the Launchkey script. No change.
  • No MIDI Inserts, no MIDI Modifiers, no sustain pedal connected, no Arp or Chord mode on the keyboard.
  • Safe Start Mode with “Disable program preferences”, problem persists.
  • Empty project, fresh computer restart, single instrument track, problem persists.
  • Different USB ports on Mac, same behavior.
  1. Has anyone on Cubase 15 with a Novation controller on macOS 27 seen this? I’d like to know whether upgrading would fix it before I buy.
  2. Is Cubase 14 expected to get a macOS 27 compatible update, or is rolling back to macOS 26 Tahoe my only option?

Happy to run further tests.

Technically Steinberg hasn’t even announced the current Cubase 15 is supported under Mac OS 27, so Cubase 14 being the previous version is even more up in the air..

Hey, here’s a good overview.

Please scroll down a bit. I took the plunge and installed the update today; so far, no negative new issues have cropped up. The only thing is that I’m keeping my interface connected to the other computer for the time being; I’ll probably switch that over a bit later. I suspect that third-party manufacturers, including Novation, still need to make some refinements. My Exquise Intuitive Inst. and the Arturia MiniLab are working without any problems on macOS 27.

Are you using Cubase 15 or 14?

I can confirm there is no issue in Cubase 15 Pro. It is a bug in Cubase 14.

Installed the upgrade to macOS27 last night; it is working fine.

Have exactly the same issue. I’m using Cubase 14 for (last version 14 called 14.0.41). After updating to Mac OS 27, every note starts but does’t stop anymore. I’m using also the Launchpad 49 mk4. I’ve tried all kind of proposals as described in the Internet, also as described above. Even reinstalled Cubase 14 today but issue persist ! Virtual keyboard works, but Launchpad 49 mk4 no more.

Any solution?

I hope Steinberg fix this problem…

I believe the final Cubase 14 update was in December of last year. Presumably Cubase 14 users would have to go back to an earlier MacOS version, or update to C15.

This topic is not about C14, it’s about C15

It would be wise for C14 MacOS 27 users to start another topic to see if there might be a user generated fix for this.
