macOS doesn't see Cubase 14 as a program to open .mid anymore

I only started using Cubase Pro on version 12, but in that version and then 13, Cubase was the default program to open .mid files. And that was fine with me since I learn music in part by opening MIDI files I download from Musescore and all over the internet.

But the weirdest thing happened in Cubase 14. Not only it didn’t replace Cubase 13 as the default program for .mid files, when I tried to set it as the default, it showed me that macOS doesn’t even know if Cubase Pro 14 can open .mid files:

Well, anyone who has Cubase knows there’s no better DAW to open MIDI files… well, at least between Cubase and Logic Pro, because those are the only ones I know

And it does open .mid files just as well as Cubase 13 or 12.

So this is not the end of the world, but I thought I might mention it. Also, .cpr files were still set to open with Cubase 13 by default, so I guess the C14 installer doesn’t do whatever it has to do when it comes to the file associations.

Hi,

This is on the system level.

I have tried this, and no Cubase version is on the list of recommended applications on my side (either Cubase 13 or Cubase 12). Therefore, I guess it has to be also somehow related to some system setting.

Right click the .mid file.
Select Info.
In the new window, select what app to open .mid files. If Cubase 14 isn’t visible there chose among not recommended apps.
Then tick the square for opening all files of this kind with C14.
Voilà.

Thanks, I already did that. My point was that it’s a bit weird that the Cubase 14 installer doesn’t tell the system that it can open .cpr and .mid files with it.
