Macos: Layout menu no longer appears after computer sleeps overnight

Hi Steinberg,

This latest issue in Dorico is driving me crazy.

The steps to reproduce are:

  • Open a project in dorico
  • Make it fullscreen in another space (like Desktop 2)
  • Go to bed and let your computer go to sleep as well
  • In the morning, the layout menu disappears as well as the other popup menus in the header

(that’s all I can think of. It could easily be something else)

They appear to be showing up somewhere? Because the main window loses focus when that happens. But they are nowhere on the screen. Here’s what it looks like. I’ll bet this is a Qt problem, but it sure would be nice to fix it.

Dorico Pro 6.2.30.6245
macos 15.7.8 (24G824)

Of course one could always turn off Dorico overnight.

I’m on 15.7.8 as well, and I put my Mac to sleep every night (from the Apple menu).

However, Dorico prevents the Mac from sleeping, so it may just sleep the display. You can’t “let your computer go to sleep”.

I’ve not seen this issue – the one difference being I don’t use full screen.

Me neither. I avoid it - it all gets kinda weird if I don’t.

TBH, I’ve never grasped the benefit of full screen. Is it that extra eighth of an inch at the polar extremities of the screen? The feeling that this program now bosses everything? What am I missing?

I don’t know if full screen matters or not, but I put in everything I could think of that would describe the setup. I’ll try it tonight without full screen and see if that would make a difference.

I don’t know if there is some sort of Dorico log I could look at that might contain some hints. It’s frustrating because I don’t know exactly what triggers it. I have seen it in other Qt apps though (I write using Qt for by job)

I’m guessing it’s something like this:

I know that the latest Dorico uses Qt 6.10 so this particular issue should be fixed, but the fact that it happened before makes me suspicious.

Indeed, but that could also turn out to have nothing to do with the problem.

Working on a laptop has me wanting all the extra screen space I can get. Going full screen and turning off the top toolbar gets me at least one more stave.
