macOS Sequoia

Anyone running macOS Sequoia? Is it good to go?

Thanks!

Of course try but … with macOS it’s better to wait…

PG, any word on this? Looks like nearly all other Steinberg products are compatible.

Thanks!

I have installed WaveLab 12.0.40 on my internet laptop that is running macOS Sequoia. WaveLab opens and seems fine, but I have not done any actual audio work to test any further aside from playing back existing files using the built-in speaker output on the MacBook Air.

I typically update my actual studio machines in late fall or right after the new year depending on how busy things are. I would say that I wouldn’t be afraid to update them now, but I’m not quite ready to do it.

While there is no official statement, I know there are some people using Sequoia with WaveLab 12 without problem. And from the Steinberg official tech support, there is no issue reported so far.

Thanks so much PG!

anyone running WL11 pro on sequoia? (compatibility reasons with a couple of other users till they are all on 12), I see 12 is now listed as compatible and if 11 doesn’t run well enough I’ll hold fire updating until they all have 12

Hi Justin and PG,

It’s encouraging to hear some reports of Wavelab 12 working with the new Sequoia OS. I’m trying to install it myself on a new M4 MacBook Pro, but the installer is prompting me to install Rosetta first. Is this to be expected? I’m not exactly eager to run anything via Rosetta on my new machine. Is there a way around this? I’ve been on the beta list for Wavelab in the past (thanks to Justin), but have not been keeping up with it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Currently, there is no solution (or maybe some hacking, like unpacking the pkg from the dmg, but I would not recommend that).
Rosetta 2 is harmless and tiny and doesn’t cause issues. Maybe sometimes you need it anyway.

Yes, you don’t need to run WaveLab 12 in Rosetta Mode. Maybe the installer prompts the installation of Rosetta in case you need it.

I have not run WaveLab (11 or 12) in Rosetta Mode in a long time, maybe never.

Thank you both for the quick replies. That makes sense and is reassuring. It looks like Rosetta is necessary to run certain sub-processes within the software, and I would have the option of whether to launch/run WL in Rosetta (which I won’t be doing). I didn’t remember installing Rosetta when I got up and running on Ventura so I was confused, but this must be because it was maybe pre-installed in the Ventura OS, unlike with Sequoia.

If it’s still any use to you… my experience of running Wavelab Pro 12 on Sequoia this week and it was totally fine but within a limited trial of functionality (10 tracks, normalisation etc, markers, some mastering plugs, master out plugs and making a CD.
Cubase 14 Pro sucked on it with continuous buffering wheels… I rolled back to Sonoma because of this. Rolling back is pretty simple these days but often needs a full wipe so make sure you have you Time Machine backup for after you roll back (it generally won’t work to roll back)

I think you must have Rosetta installed at some point because things like the Download assistant still require it.

Good luck.

Thank you for this. Happy to report I’ve been working in Wavelab/Sequoia for several weeks now without a single glitch with all of my plugins and I haven’t looked back. No Rosetta, or any other compromises/workarounds.

Over the weekend I updated both of my studio Macs to Sequoia (from Sonoma) and all seems good with WaveLab and the core group of plug-ins I like to use.

It does seem to be a Cubase thing.
The issue I have now is, after trying Sequoia and it failing me, I won’t now ever have the confidence in it to try again as rolling back, whilst easy enough, is a right pain in the arse… I’m still finding things that I forgot to reinstall.
