MacOS sound device switching when opening Dorico

Hi, I’m on the latest version of Dorico and MacOS Sonoma. I’m having an issue where the sound device in MacOS switches as soon as I open Dorico. It’s like Dorico “steals” the device from finder etc. As soon as I close Dorico MacOS switches back to my preferred device.

I’m using a Heritage i73 audio interface.

Anyone familiar with this issue?

Dorico sets its own audio output, independently of System Settings. This is in Edit > Device Setup.

Is that what you mean?

No that’s not quite it. I have selected the same audio device both in Dorico and in MacOS Sound Prefs but every time I open Dorico the selected device in MacOS switches away from what I want it to be. The Dorico audio device remains the same - the one that I want.

This becomes an issue when I work on something in Dorico but want to quickly listen to something on my computer, a wav or mp3 or anything else.

I figured it out: The new Heritage i73 has a High Precision mode for audio that I had selected in Dorico. The High Precision mode disabled all other use of the i73 while active. Choosing the non-High Precision mode enabled MacOS to use the device simultaneously.

Is the OS-selected output your Heritage interface? Perhaps it’s a specific issue with that. I’ve not heard of this before. (On Mac, at least – Windows seems to have a lot of problems with ‘exclusive’ audio.)

You might want to post a Diagnostic Report, from the Help menu, which may help the team to figure out what’s going on.

Ninja’d! Glad you figured it out.
