There are a lot of things where holding down the Shift key changes the behavior of what you are doing.
For example holding shift allows you to make finer adjustments when changing values with a mouse wheel.
As an alternative to holding the Shift key through multiple edits it would be real useful if engaging Caps Lock behaved as if you were holding the shift key.
