I’m starting to learn that part of the problem for me is not knowing what to call some of the things I want to do - so searching for the option in layout, input etc is hard because I’m not sure what to call it. Same goes in the help categories.
Today, I’m trying to figure out how to make the final system longer. It tends to happen on the final system, and possibly when there’s a coda involved. In Finale, I could just grab the handle of that final system and make it as short or long as I needed. Is there a way to do that here? Thanks again!
But the more usual way to handle this in Dorico is to go into Layout Options > Note Spacing and set “Only justify final system in flow when more than X% full” to something smaller than its default 50%. What this means is that by default, Dorico will only stretch the final system to fill the whole frame horizontally if the system is more than 50% full. Your last system falls under this threshold and therefore keeps the default measure widths. If you change the value to something small, like 5%, Dorico will stretch that last system for you.
You are so helpful @asherber, thank you. - Soon, I hope I’m down to, say, 3 times a week asking for help!
I did the manual move (which I know feels like it’s frowned upon a little…) and it seems that in Dorico you use the arrow key to shift the handle, not grab and drag it? At least that’s what I did.
In my effort to try and understand my brain as well as Dorico – I’m not sure how I would have found this answer without asking…does anyone have suggestions on how to learn/phrase some issues and find the answers? I try to find it in videos first, then search topics – but I wouldn’t have known how to word this issue, and I think that will be a common theme for me. Knowing the menus/wording as opposed to feeling like I could see many of those options in Finale. True, many commands were learned over time - like I’m trying to do here. But I don’t know if the answer is to just keep searching/asking when I run into issues (which are pretty frequent!) Or am I supposed to try and become more familiar with how Dorico labels and places commands. Is it a read the manual thing? Anyway…this might also be procrastination too. Thanks again.
