Make into System

I’m trying to complete a layout and have been left with a one-bar system and a short system which I want to combine.

I’ve tried clicking the first note, ctrl+click last rest and nothing happens. Ctrl+click the end barline, and nothing happens.
Ctrl+click the last note, and it splits that last bar and joins the notes, but not the rest of the bar

What am I missing?
Also, is there any way to copy a formatted layout to another layout (‘Copy Part Layout’ in a former leading program)?

I can’t see any signposts in your pictures, so I can’t diagnose the problem. If you switch on View > Signposts > Frame/System Breaks you should hopefully be able to make some sense of what’s going on. If you can’t figure it out, by all means zip up and attach the project here and I’ll be happy to take a look.

Daniel,
I thought I had the signposts on, but you’re right - I didn’t - DUH!
Thanks for your help.
I don’t know how you do it. I’m struggling just to read most of the posts, never mind reply to them as well!

The last two bars of a part refuse to become a system. As a player, a squished orphan bar is confusing; five systems on the page would be ideal. I’ve tried all the re-spacing tricks I know. Here is a PDF with signposts.

Is that a System break in your last bar, bar 31? Click on it and delete it?

Side note, to take or leave: You could make this page more evenly spaced by putting two bars on every system.

And putting a system break on every line, although possible and perhaps quick, is more of a blunt force method than adjusting the note spacing for the entire page/part, which likely more closely would follow the way Dorico expected the job to get done.

(Sorry about the word salad there.)

I’d get rid of all the System Breaks, and let the Note Spacing value set how you want things. Or use fixed casting off for bars per system and systems per page.
