Hi everyone, i hope i can find help here.
I’m new on Cubase, going from an other software really recently, and i like it pretty much since now.
I wanted to know if i can “reproduce” a technic i’ve found on my other DAW.
I want to make an automated LowCut that is related to the note played in my synth.
The idea behind that is to ( for example) get rid of the low rumble in some spiccicato technique on violon and so on ( played in a Kontakt player).
So in my other Daw i could make an automated Highpass filter that move with the note played and attenuate all that is under the fundamental of the note, makes the sound a bit clearer than with a simple fix Highpass.
Is that possible to do something like that in Cubase ? And if it is, how can i do and how heavy processoring it could be.
Thanks a lot ! ( hope my english is not so bad)
If you have Cubase Pro 14 it can be done.
Let’s use the Low Cut filter from a channel’s Pre section.
You will also need to create a MIDI track for sending the MIDI data.
- load the modulator “ModScripter” onto your audio channel, where you want to perform the low cut.
- In ModScripter load the preset “MIDI Note Play Frequency”
- switch on the Low Cut filter in the channels’ Pre section.
- connect the ModScripter to the frequency setting of the Low Cut; set the connection to uni-polar, the value knob to the minimum position (here 20 Hz) and the depth to 100%
- create a MIDI track; set the track’s output to the ModScripter
Now the frequency of the low cut filter will follow what you play or send on the MIDI track.

Hi, thanks for the quick answer that correspond exactly for my needs. I just have few more questions if that’s possible to answer.
Do you have a way to attenuate the “curve” of the LFO ? Make the mouvement a bit smoother than a hard leap ? For now it make some “hard” leap from a position to another. if i put the LFO to control on an other LowCut that get an harder slope (like -24db for example) it can make some clicky sound artifact when it leap lots of interval.
Second question, it’s just a confirmation because i think you’re answered it. The modularor’s feature only comme with the pro version of cubase ? No way to make that technic with the artist version for example ?
Thanks a lot
Hello,
in my example I have not used an LFO at all. If you play the MIDI keyboard there are 128 discrete midi pitch values and the ModScripter transforms these into 128 discrete frequency values. Currently there is no smoothing function but it could be added to the script.
Modulators are only available in Cubase Pro, I’m afraid. There is no such solution in Artist.
Ups, forget to respond ! Thanks a lot, that’s really help me. You’re a killer !
