Making License Portable

I have a USB dongle I used with Cubase 3 that is no longer working). I put the dongle into the computer and the eLicenser opened it and saw the Cubase 3 License.
My question is is it safe to follow the instructions and drag my Cubase7 license to the USB. In so doing making the License portable. Do I have to erase the Cubase 3 license first.
I hope I get some advice.

Certainly that´s why the Steinberg people posted these instructions here…!?

Thanks for the reply, my worry was that the dongle is 8 years old and may not work. However I think I updated it okay on another computer and it seems to be okay. Years ago I found Cubase brilliant but often mismatched with the computer system, hence my caution.
