Hello. I would like to create a wind band march in landscape A5 format. I want to include short trumpet calls on one of the pages. I am setting this up using “flows.” The problem arises because the automatic “flow” tokens change when I move them. For example, if I move a text box containing the “flow name” token to a different position, it switches to the previous “flow token.” Are there any boundaries or settings that control how this is displayed?
Are you saying it changes to a different token – (like, @flowTitle might become @flowSubtitle? Or it changes to a token from an earlier or later flow?
A file would be helpful here (with a better description or image of what you are trying to accomplish)! 
The token remains the same, but the “flow” switches to the previous or next one if I move the frame up or down. Is there a visible line to preview that boundary? The content is very dense—maximally packed on the page. The staves and “flow” names are very close together.
Have you got more than one flow on the page? Can you show us the page?
Yes. There are multiple “flows” on a single page. The staves are very close together, and the successive “flows” are also very close to one another.
If those snippets need to stay close to one another, I’d suggest you use the “Coda route”, instead of the flows one. You simply add a coda at the beginning of the first bar of your snippet and use the properties to hide Coda and the signs… In Engraving options>Repeat markings, you set the length of the gap before the coda, and you’re set. You can add titles with staff attached text (or system attached text) and you’re done.
[Edit] : what you are doing is perfectly logical, doable, etc. It’s just faster to use the coda route sometimes
I can’t remember what the criterion is for Flow tokens to decide which flow they refer to on the page. It might be the first one; or the nearest one.
You can always use FlowNtoken to ensure the right flow, but you’d have to use manual overrides.
I’ve used flows for my marching band scores. Two ways you can mitigate this:
- Set the Layout options → Page setup → Flow margins to something very low to reduce the space to previous flows. You can always increase the space in Engrave mode without it affecting the flow title.
- Manually set the flow title to, say,
{%flow3title%}to show the title of your third flow.
For really short sections, I agree with @MarcLarcher that Codas are much better and faster to work with.
This might serve as an inspiration 
40, 40a, 40b and 47a, 47b, 47c are separate flows (don’t question the numbering, I was just following what we already had). The last two pages from Deutsche Messe is one flow separated by Codas.
