Is there a way to propagate note spellings I’ve changed in a multi-flow, multi-part project across everything at once?
I made some enharmonic changes (especially in transposing instruments) in part layouts and later noticed that these changes don’t appear in the score layout.
Is there a way to apply them globally without having to select the notes separately in every part and every flow?
There is Write>Respell>Propagate Note Spellings which can be done while selecting everything in a layout, so no need to select individual notes. But you’d still have to do that from every part layout to propagate note spellings from the parts to the score. You can assign a key command though.
Sorry for being unclear — I didn’t mean selecting individual notes, but rather notes in general.
Right now, the only workaround I’ve found is to select the notes in every part and every flow. With ~30 parts and 7 flows, that means repeating the same selection + command sequence roughly 200 times. I also don’t remember exactly where I made enharmonic edits, so I’d have to do it everywhere just to be safe.
Is there any shortcut or global command that would apply the updated spellings across the whole project?
Lesson learned for next time: if you change spelling in a part, propagate it immediately.
(Or make the changes from the score layout, then they will propagate to the parts).
I was thinking you could try to record a macro that executes the following commands:
Select all
Propagate Note Spellings
Next Layout
But there’s no way that I know of* to select everything in all flows of the project. And since you have 7 flows, you’d still have to revisit each layout seven times and select something in bar 1 of the next flow, then repeat the macro. So one way or another you’re looking at some repetitive tasks I’m afraid.
*Oddly I noticed in my 2-bar mockup that you can marquee select everything in multiple flows at once, but that’s obviously not doable in an actual project filled with music. It seemed odd to me though that Dorico apparently can select stuff over multiple flows at once, just not with a key command.
Another possibility: When you see a spelling in a part layout that you want to change, select the note, type W to go to the same note in the full score, change the spelling there, then press W again to go back to the part.
Enharmonic changes made in the score do propagate to part layouts, just not the other way around.
I know, but due to slowness of Dorico with huge files, pressing [W] in part makes me wait around 8 seconds. Change+propagate is much faster. With smaller files it is ok, with 120k notes things tend to slow down.
