Master section recall on Montage open?

Pretty sure I know that the answer is no, but is there any preference to have Wavelab load the master section from a montage on opening that montage? I know I can load it manually from the elusive “master section preset settings” ‘star’, but this is easy to miss and error-prone. There are times when it really makes sense to have the master section be part of the montage - e.g. if you need to build a resampler step in (which is only available in the master section), then the proper place for brick-wall limiting is after the resampler - this makes it a crucial part of the montage and it would be great if that were recalled automatically.

I understand that many view the master section as a “playback” processing section, but for some workflows it’s the best place to have certain processes that are part of the montage.

So…possible? Hopefully there’s something I don’t know here…

I think it is possible if you save project. PG or someone else can confirm.

Sorry, this is not possible.

  1. Create and save a New Project
  2. Create Audio Montage inside Project and Save Within Project.

When you open the Project instead of Montage, the Master Section preset associated with the Project is recalled.

The OP is talking about a montage auto loading the master section on opening. Not a project where there might be a number of montages in the same tab (I personally work that way … this is one purpose of a Project). As PG has said, this is not possible.

True, but it is also not a requirement that a Project must have a number of montages like how you work. I was suggesting a workaround for what was not possible.

This is why I stopped using the Master Section the day that the Montage Output Section was added which I think was sometime around version 8.5 or 9.

Having the Resampler available in the Montage Output section would help some users for sure but I’m not sure how possible that is.

Thanks for confirming.

Thanks - I’ll try again to incorporate projects into my workflow. I found them cumbersome previously and didn’t really do anything which improved workflow here, but it might help me with this issue.

Yes, this is the only reason I ever use the master section so it would (for me) solve the main issue.

Anyway, thanks to all for confirming. I’ll just have to find a different way to handle or continue with the old way of reminding myself to reload master section on every montage load.

I really love the Custom Montage Duplicate feature for when I need to get to lower sample rates.

I bake in all the processing at the high sample rate (and floating point bit-depth) as one long file, use RX (WaveLab Batch Processor can be fine too) to downsample the high sample rate render to 44.1k (or 48k) and the Custom Montage Duplicate feature will recreate the montage for you.

This allows you to inspect the downsample more closely and decide if any new true peaks need to be managed or not before creating the 44.1k masters.

This is how/why I can avoid using the Master Section for anything besides Playback Processing for my Clarity M meter, or others use it for Room/Headphone Correction, etc.

Thanks Justin - Yes, this is how I do finished masters too (custom duplicate the montage using an SRC of the final end-to-end render). But for other workflows (e.g. generating refs of many mixes for client approval) having SRC built into the montage makes a lot of sense and saves a lot of time/faffing about.

personally, (and I know I will get criticism for this) but I think one new feature that would alleviate many conflicts for many users would be a simple on/off preference to link the master section settings to the Montage, turn it on and the Master Section is a more elaborate Montage Output, turn it off, and everything works like it has for a long time now…

Just wonder is it for SRC or something else like plugins setup processing!?

or I like to use Master Output settings from Montage but now for use it for Master Section?
