Mastering workflow - Audio workspace first or just montage?

Hello,

it seems that when mastering an album, many people first put each track into a separate audio workspace, do the effect processing there, render the mastered file, and just then use an audio montage to put the tracks together.

I, on the other hand, tend to do the whole mastering process from beginning to end in an audio montage, using the clip effects feature to master the individual tracks. Like this, I don’t have to render intermediate results but just the final tracks. The only major disadvantage is, that as of now, the intelligent bypass feature does not affect the clip (and track) effects.

Which approach has proven to be the best in daily mastering practice?
