Max volume +6 vs +12, Help

Hi All,

Does anyone could explain me what is the aim of the “Maximum volume +6 or +12dB” preference in C7 ?
How do we have to choose the value ?

My Hardware Controllers (Avid Artist Mix etc.) have faders going up to +12 dB. When I set Max Volume in Cubase to +12 dB, I can use the entire fader way of my Hardware Controllers. Otherwise, the last 6 dB of fader way would be of no effect in Cubase.
