Me again with key command problems

I had problems a couple weeks ago with losing and finding my key commands after a crash. The problem I have now is that my key commands only seem to work when I have my language set to French, whereas before they worked in English. I prefer my language set to English because this forum is in English and it is my primary source of info when I have questions (and if you speak a second language you know the frustration of trying to find the equivalent of an obscure musical or computer term from one language to the next).

On mac in application support/steinberg/dorico I have located the keycommands_fr.json file. I tried copying the file and changing the “fr” to “en” but that didn’t work. Is there a way to do this that doesn’t require me to re-enter all my key commands with the language set to english?

en or fr in the json file’s name is related to your keyboard language, not to the language you use for Dorico. So you shouldn’t need to change this (I assume you always use a French keyboard, so your keycommands are in the _fr.json file).

Do you have the most recent version of Dorico 6? There has been a signifiant improvement in one of the last updates about Keycommands and language switch, as far as I remember.

no unfortunately my computer/maximum OS is too old for the update. Yes I use a French keyboard. Before my big Dorico crash I had a couple weeks ago the key commands worked in both languages if I remember correctly, though I rarely was in French.

In Preferences > Keycommands, when you use Dorico in English, is the Keyboard language set to French?

I think we all three use a French keyboard layout. As a Day-1 user, I’m more fluent in Dorico when I set its UI in English, and my keyboard shortcuts work flawlessly, unless I’m giving some lesson in French. This is something that the Team knows, because I’ve already mentioned it on the forum. The only way for my shortcuts to work correctly when I change the UI language preference is to shut Dorico down and start it again, which takes me a minute with my M4 Max (and my 700+ plug-ins…) It was way more problematic with my former 2019 i9. So every time Dorico does not respond well to my shortcuts (and I’ve got lots of them, really !), I restart it and everything runs fine. Until I change the UI language again

I just tried all three, default, french and english. It didn’t seem to change anything.

I restarted several times before posting and it didn’t change anything.

If you open the keycommands_fr.json file you were talking about, does it actually contain anything (do you see your shortcuts)?

Edit: my question is pointless, since you say your shortcuts work when the UI is in French, so they must be there.

yup they are there in text form!

Then I’m afraid I don’t know what’s happening in your system.

The few times I’ve had key command issues between English and French, a restart of Dorico solved it, as @MarcLarcher points out above.

And I’m not sure if submitting here a diagnostic report would actually help anyone understand what’s going on. Maybe try, just in case?

OK I’ll submit one. THanks!
