Measure spacing problem because of tempo markings

The engraving on this measure is pretty bad because the note starts at the beginning of the “rit.” but not until after the previous tempo marking has finished. If I put the previous tempo mark on a previous system the text goes off the page. I would like an easy solution that doesn’t have me tinkering with custom spacing in 35 parts. Or am I wrong in thinking this is an engraving problem?

I can’t think of an easy solution here. I mean, it’s a long tempo mark followed by another. I think tinkering is the only way.

In that case I will change deux fois plus lent (twice as slow) to 2x plus lent without the tempo indication because it is unnecessary granted it is simple division of tempo in 2.
