Measures in Flow 2 disappearing when formating Flow 1

Howdy y’all,

So I have a weird glitch(?) that I can’t quite figure out why it occurs.

As you can see here, in my 1st violin part it goes from bar 104 to bar 113, which is extremely strange. I played around with as many options as I knew about that may possibly address this. I deleted all breaks in the Flow, that didn’t work; I turned off multi-measure rests, that didn’t work; there are NO page template overrides on any of the pages. This missing measures still exist, as if I select that last 8th of 104 and press the right arrow key, it will select the first note of the missing bar 105 and even play from there if I press the P key. Only when I go to the Engrave menu and select Reset Layout under Format Music Frames do the missing measures reappear.

Great! But now I need to reformat/re-engrave the part.

Flow 1 of the file goes on to a second page, which I don’t want. So I select the first item of the very first system and the last item on the very last system and click “Make Into Frame,” typically stuff.

This is the end of Flow 2, with the measures that disappear highlighted. Turns out, making Flow 1 all into one frame is what makes these measures at the end of Flow 2 disappear. And I can’t for the life of me figure out why this is happening. I’ll attach my file that should open to the 1st violin part with a quick explanation of the issue in a text frame if anyone is able/willing to play around with it and figure out the issue.

If this is a one-off glitch, that’s one thing as none of the other parts that I could see had this issue. But if it’s a feature of some nature, I’d love to know about it so I can avoid this in the future. Unfortunately, I learned that this was even an issue when the concertmaster informed me of missing measures during a recent session.

It looks there has been some manual staff spacing done.

After making Flow 1 into one frame, go into the Staff Spacing sub-mode of Engrave mode.

On the page with the missing measures:

1 - Click on the red box at the top left of the systems starting with measures 92, 97 and 116, and press delete. You might have to do some more of this after step 2.

2 - Towards the bottom of the page, on the left, you will see the blue boxes which show the distance between adjacent staves.

Enter a value of about the same as what separates the staves you can see.

With any luck, the missing measures will re-appear.

If things are still not quite right, drag-select (marquee selection) across all the systems on that page and do Engrave (menu) > Staff Spacing > Reset Selected Systems.

I don’t have the time right now to investigate why this happened, but I suspect that the manual staff spacing on the original page 5 might have affected or been transferred to the original page 6 once it became page 5 after the first two pages were made into one. My suspicion falls on the -261.7mm at the very bottom of that page.

Other users will doubtless have some ideas to contribute about how to avoid this happening in future projects.

Hi @SilverRain, here my suggestions, similar to the useful ones that @StevenJones01 gave you already:

instead of using “make into frame”, insert a Note Spacing Change set at 3 3/8 for the quarter notes, at the beginning of flow 1: this will make the first flow into one page:

Then reset the whole layout’s manual staff spacing (just in case): this will delete all the staff spacings in the layout, and also the issue with disappearing staves [they where out of the page]:

Thank you @Christian_R and @StevenJones01 ! This has been extremely helpful in figuring out what went wrong on my end. And, I got to learn a little bit more about some options I never thought to use before, so that’s a bonus!
