Media Bay audio preview - A myth

Why is it that I can not preview audio in media bay?

Its been a minute since I tried to trust this DAW’s extra features to work and did media bay ever exceed these negative expectations and past experiences? Should I just stop using Cubase because it impacts my health that much, or should we expect better from Steinberg?

Your health is impacted because you have a problem with the media bay? Ok.

Sure sounds like something is wrong. Based on the info you have provided, I’m guessing the cause must be something.

You could have stopped here to receive constructive advice on why something isn’t functioning to your expectations.

Having this option checked may be the cause of your issue.

This option remains unticked in the same way the sound not previewing! Any other ideas? Thank You

So your media bay plays back previews of the audio?

Yes. Have you checked that the playback level is turned up?

You may want to consider the possibility it’s a configuration & not a product issue.

The volume fader by default looks to be not the problem. As I would have also checked this every time, as I’ve been producing since SX. I see the audio transients. When I drag and drop the audio it plays. This is not acceptable, as it is after the fact of expecting a preview. maybe the visual audio transient previews are just a gag joke laid out by the team like an egg hunt, and I should invest in a new sense of humour?

No the volume is not the issue. I have also, yes, turned computer off and back on again, as well as unplugged from the wall, and experienced consistent issues since at least Cubase 10 on various machines. All up to date and what not, Cubase 13.

Changing computers in short future but this is in isolation - a Steinberg product issue - this might be the end of my relationship with this company.

Cubase is consistently the only thing that goes wrong on any computer, but in my experience far and wide, not only this, they continue to sell updates that should be free while continuing with such issues as say crashing with out back ups, or media bay playbacks being non existent features, and or selling ‘track tabs’ with ‘everything’ you need to ‘mix’ but failing to apply the ‘output’ as a part of said feature.

For many people the latter would be like leaving the lights in the box rather than putting them on the tree. It’s not that they don’t have the lights.

I’m really tired of this company’s lack of accountability and intentional fraudulent advertising on such feature upgrades as exampled in the ‘track tab’.

Everything else in Cubase gives me sound… Media bay does not. Since being traumatised by having my Padshop Licence self destruct and loosing months on certain tracks while trying to trouble shoot this - a while ago - I am trying to trust this company again. Giving me a new license for Padshop was not enough to resolve this trauma. Jumping through the 5 apps needed to manage this product didn’t also help either.

I love the sound engine of Cubase and why I have used it since SX. Its sad that I would have to look elsewhere, as I own it all and can say that Steinburg at this point have to be ignorant - its the only logical evaluation to make.

I feel like this company do not listen to their customers and ought to reconsider 14 - as a free update - not a glorified never ending problem and failure of fundamental principals.

Any other ideas as to why media bay does not work - or why the out the box settings would be so anti playback? As you can see I’ve spent a bit more time than just adjusting volume faders on this issue. Putting aside my continued lack of experienced abandonment by this product as a marketed product - I would like to be able to trust this company again.

Have a great week

Clearly you have done everything that you could already. I don’t see what any of us could do to improve your situation. Your recent posts have clearly shown where the problems lie. Steinberg is just not living up to what a reasonable customer as yourself could expect.

I guess your inutition already tells you it is time to take your business elsewhere. That is the strongest message you could send to Steinberg. I heard Reaper is amazing. Or Studio One.
