Memory Question - 16x4 or 8x8 [Asus x99 mobo 5960]

Hey all,


Building my x99 5960 system. The mobo I’m using is the Asus x99 Deluxe. I am going to have a 64g configuration but am unsure whether its better to use 16x4 or 8x8.

Does it make a difference?

The only question to me would be the possibility of future BIOS updates increasing the maximum amount of memory possible on your board - if this seems unlikely then it won’t do any harm to use up all the slots maximising memory channel bandwidth - however - DAWs aren’t particularly hard on memory performance so I doubt if you’ll notice the difference, 8*8Gb is probably cheaper though which might swing the decision.
