Metadata Problem

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with my current post-production workflow and hope you can help.

Workflow:

  • Production sound: Sound Devices MixPre-6 (with correct metadata such as scene, take, track names, etc.)

  • Syncing audio and video in Tentacle Sync

  • Export from Tentacle Sync as .XML

  • Import of the XML into Adobe Premiere Pro 24

  • Editing in Premiere

  • Export from Premiere as .AAF

  • Import of the AAF into Nuendo 13

Problem:

After importing the AAF into Nuendo 13, most of the original MixPre-6 metadata is unfortunately missing.
In addition, the clip and event names are altered or illogical, so that scene/take information can no longer be clearly traced.

In Premiere, the metadata seems to be largely intact, but it apparently gets lost during the AAF export or at the latest during the import into Nuendo.

My questions:

  • Is this behavior known with this workflow (Tentacle XML → Premiere → AAF → Nuendo)?

  • Is there a recommended workflow to preserve the MixPre metadata as completely as possible through to Nuendo 13?

  • Is the cause more likely:

    • the XML from Tentacle Sync,

    • the AAF export from Premiere Pro, or

    • the AAF import options in Nuendo?

Many thanks in advance for your tips and shared experience!

Best regards,
Jan

Have you tried the Field Recorder File Import option in Nuendo? It is not perfect but should work for this case.

Here’s some more info from actual users:

check if media you receve is mxf or wav.

when editor exports aaf, he/she can chose wav or mxf. i would recomend wav because nuendo can not read mxf metadata (at least not for me).

also check what media ends up in premiere after sync, i recomend using wav throung out the pipeline

Dear all! Thanks for all the answers. i will try out your suggestions and let you know what happend.
