Mid-Phrase Unison .pdf (121.9 KB)
Any suggestion to obtain this kind of mid-phrase unison in condensed staves?
Thank you very much in advance,
Stefano
The mid-phrase unison you seek can be achieved with an altered unison. Add a flat to the last F in the first clarinet part as shown in the first flow below. Then add a condensing change to force the clarinets to share a voice as shown in the second flow. Finally, select the notes in the altered unison in engrave mode, hide their accidentals and activate the Split stem property without checking the box as shown in the third flow:
You will also need to hide the flat added to the last F in the first clarinet part and suppress playback of that note.
John, you are definitely a workaround genius. Champion of the world!
Thank you so much!
On the sidelines of this, I would like to express my humble opinion, free of any polemical tone. In professional publishing, this kind of notation is normal, and Dorico should not force users into this obstacle course. It should always be possible to make manual corrections to achieve what is desired. Just for an example, the handling of staff and group labels is too rigid compared to, for instance, Finale.

One can also achieve this by using SHIFT + I + 1 to add the extra note in Cl. 2 to help condensing show the unison in the score. In the Cl. 2 part, one can hide the extra note locally.
No adjustment to playback would be necessary.
Thank you, Derrek.
Maybe I’m missing one step but apparently that doesn’t work for me. In the condensed score I still see only one notehead.
I guess I don’t mind the double stem approach, which in retrospect could be achieved more easily in other ways.
Dear Derrek, I know what you mean, but it’s not what I was looking for.
