New to modern DAWs. I’m trying to make my old Fatar master keyboard, on MIDI ch 1, control an external Matrix-12, on MIDI ch 12. The Matrix base and zone are both set to ch 12.
Shouldn’t setting input routing to ALL/ANY and output routing to Matrix 12 ch 12 work? If I switch the Fatar to ch 12, it works, but I was hoping that Cubase could do all the MIDI conversion based on the selected track config as setup in the inspector section. Thank you in advance to anyone who feels like taking a stab at this.
Yes…but your screencap shows both input and output set to any channel?
So I thought that meant, any channel sending MIDI would go to all MIDI channels, no? I’ve tried so many combinations and not found one that works yet. And my choices for output are either ANY or 1-11, and 13-16. 12 is missing, I guess because the box above it is already set to Matrix-12/ch 12. What should this be set to?
The box above is the port…Didn’t you name it this way?
The midi port settings screencap doesn’t show it but presumably that’s what is in show as column?
I’m not sure why you don’t see ch 1 or ch 12 in your channel menu…that’s where you need to select 12. Maybe you have those assigned in external instruments or something that’s blocking that port/channel.
That’s just a name…calling it ch12 doesn’t make it send ch12.
right. But I’ve got the Matrix-12 on ch 12, both for Zone and base channel. I’m going back through YT vids to see if I can figure out what I’m missing.
One last question and then I’ll let it go. So where do you set the MIDI channel in Cubase? I originally had Identical Channels all white, including 12. Maybe I should set as shown in this picture?
I never use the midi device panel so I’m not sure. I don’t understand if you had all of them selected why 12 was missing from your drop down.
For starters maybe try to create just a MIDI Track, not an Instrument Track. Then set the output port as you did on your screenshot and the output channel to 12.
Does your device receive MIDI on channel 12 now?
I FINALLY just got it to work when I set it to INDIVIDUAL channel 12. And yeah I’ve only been using MIDI tracks, not instrument. Whew. I think I need to hire a tutor. So many questions. Thank you Johnny and Grim. Know any Cubase consultants? Seems like none of the YT vids answer things in my situations.
YT content creators are mainly busy with creating content and no one should expect their comment section to be a help forum.
This having said, you claim to be a beginner. Maybe it would be best to not work with what is called “MIDI Devices” in Cubase, as this is some advanced stuff.
I’d really recommend to not define a MIDI Device on your MIDI track. Then the routing should work out alright.
Explanation: MIDI Devices allow you to create remote control panels for hardware units as well as a list of patches for easier program changes. However, it takes somes skill to create one.
Ahh - interesting. So I really have no need to create MIDI devices. Good to know. YT - yeah - I just watch, never post questions because I know they’ve got thousands of comments/questions already. : ) Thank you.
