Midi and playback problem

hi everyone,

i meet 2 problems in dorico 6 (just downloaded 6.2.10.6140 on mac):

-no audio at all. could halion SE be missing ? how to know?

- no midi export is possible. the midi file created is empty. even reimported in dorico it’s empty.

i probably made some wrong manipulation while installing, but even with reinstalling, the result is the same.

any clue?

Sounds like you have the Silence playback template applied. With that template, no MIDI would be generated. Try Play → Playback Template, choose Auto then Apply and Close..

Sorry to say, it plays back just fine for me. If you go to Play mode and click the ‘e’ next to Halion, what instruments are loaded in the slots? In my instance, strangely there are 12 slots filled for 4 instruments.

EDIT: I re-applied the Auto template and, again, strange, it didn’t load Groove Agent for the drums even though I have that checked in the Auto template, rather, it loaded a bunch of GM kits into Halion (hence the number of occupied slots).

when i click on the e it opens the halion sonic 7 window…

there s an improvement, it plays something now, all with a piano sound but still better!

the drums dont work yet. i ll reinstall the groove agent…

So now it plays everything with a piano sound, except the drums, which are muted, for some reason,

as i select enable independant voice playback, it stops playing and shows me a window: “ can t open the software because no license was found”

which is strange since i have a licence and anyway i thought halion 7 was part of dorico…

any hint?

HALion Sonic 7 is bundled with Dorico. HALion 7 is the big brother and requires a separate purchase and license from Steinberg.

Dorico factory playback templates are configured only for HALion Sonic 7 (I think).

(EDIT: Which version of Dorico are you using - Pro, Elements or SE?)

i threw halion 7 that i don t need then…

now i can hear everything drums (with the groove agent SE) or only piano with halion sonic.

what is not clear for me is why halion sonic proposes me only the category “piano”

i have no access to any other types of instruments.

Upload your diagnostics (Do Help>Create Diagnostic Report and upload the zip file from your desktop), so one of the team can take a look at your set up.

I’m no expert, but there’s a bunch of warnings (inside Dorico>Application.log) about missing sound content and missing playback template specs…

You should Install All and get some coffee. It’s 15-20GB total then you’ll have everything.

i already downloaded some stuff and i have a couple of sounds, now, so it’s improving! now my document doesn t seem to link the instruments to the sounds.

i can do it manually (although i m not sure how) but i suppose it should be automatic, right?

when i click the e of halion sonic, the app is empty, i mean there are no instruments on the window. on the right there s a list of possibilities, and i can insert channel after channel all the instruments. but i dont think it s the proper method.
