MIDI clock/sync output

Hi

There are certain situations where it might be desirable to send MIDI out from Dorico.

Are there currently any plans to implement MIDI output from Dorico?

If I understand correctly, in Play mode, simply add a MIDI Instrument and route your tracks accordingly.

Hope that helps.

@derAbgang I think the keyword missing from OP is that it’s about MIDI clock / bpm data. :slight_smile: Not just MIDI data going out. MIDI data works fine, but that’s “just” note and CC data. What I’m missing here, is an option to send out MIDI clock data, so Dorico can be the clock master for Ableton and other MIDI gear. (Synths, modular, etc.)

For context: @SimonHarpham and I had a conversation on Discord about this, resulting in this feature request. It is mainly my issue I’m struggling with and have yet not found a proper solution.

Got it… there are a few topics on here about that but I’m sure you’ve read them. (search: dorico txl).
… oh and welcome to the forum @Harmen_de_Ruiter

@derAbgang Thank you!

Yep, the closest I got was BeatSeeker (an Ableton Live / Max for Live plugin) to sync Ableton (but so far it is a far from optimal solution) and sending out 1/16th MIDI notes (4ppn) to a modular module (Befaco MIDI Thing v2) that converts it to gate signals that work fairly well as eurorack clock.

But both are pretty ugly, error-prone and huge kludges.

Also I had my hopes on the tools from TXL 20 but so far I learned that though it should be able to timesync Ableton to Dorico, it might not be able to BPM sync Ableton to Dorico.

Timesync will come in very handy, but without MIDI clock / BPM sync, for my situation it’s pretty useless.

So either I hope for a proper solution to this (a VST, some other workaround), or a feature for an upcoming Dorico release, where Dorico can be “simply” set to be MIDI clock master. (And if possible, do both start/stop/transport as well as MIDI clock.)
So I’m either looking

I want this too.

My use case is that I want to write in Dorico then play it and record it through Logic. Since Logic will have to guess the tempo and meter without time data, I’ll feed it something like a click track too so that after the recording is done, I can adjust Logic’s understanding of the tempo and meter by having it analyze the click track instead of the music.
