It would be useful to be able to play back only the selected notes in the editor, for example via a new option in the “solo editor mode” panel - only the selected notes in black would then play, as if the rest were muted:

Thanks, yeah I am aware, but it feels somewhat obtrusive and you have to keep track of undoing the mutes the run (not to mention the muted notes you already had for other purposes getting ruined by that move). Being able to simply loose the selection again and play back normally would be more natural 
Yeah, it’s a workaround among others, that’s true.
