After recording cc1 messages over a previously recorded midi part, i can no longer see the original midi notes that i recorded
How do i get that lane to the top

Hi,

Before the MIDI CC overdubing, select the Controller option in the Preferences > Record > MIDI > Replace Recording in Editors.

Ok thanks for that, but as Ive already recorded, can i retrieve the notes so that I can edit them?

You would need to Undo your recording.
