Midi export with sound preset problem

Hi,
I’m new to Dorico and am slowly learning the software.
Here’s my problem: when I export a MIDI file, the resulting file doesn’t match the original sounds. For example, a saxophone will turn into an “ah voice” in the MIDI file.
I’m using the basic Halion Sonic sound library with automated settings.
The weird thing is, I was already able to get a correct MIDI file before the last update.
I think there’s a MIDI channel issue…
I’ve spent many hours trying to solve this problem, but to no avail.
Do you have a step-by-step guide for the basic settings?
Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum, @lbcontact2000-dorico. I’m sorry you’re having a hard time with this.

I guess the issue is ultimately that you need the program changes in the MIDI file to match the General MIDI standard, and that’s easier said than done.

What application are you taking your MIDI files into? Perhaps there’s something that can be done in that application to apply General MIDI mapping, e.g. based on the track names in the MIDI file?

Hello dspreadbury. Thanks for the feedback. I’ll send you the Dorico file and you’ll understand my problem better !

Thanks for attaching the project. What application are you trying to take your MIDI file into?

Thanks for the feedback.
I’m not inputting the MIDI file into any specific associated software (DAW). It’s simply a file for my students to use so they have a backing track that can be played in a MIDI player, giving them the ability to work at different speeds.
What do you think of the file’s MIDI export settings? They seem to be set correctly… that’s very strange…

I assume the MIDI player that your students are using is expecting MIDI files that are using the General MIDI standard? If so, that’s the problem: Dorico doesn’t directly export General MIDI-format MIDI files, because it exports to MIDI exactly what is played when you play back your project. Dorico’s sounds are not GM, so the MIDI file you export is similarly not GM.

There isn’t a great workflow for exporting GM-format MIDI files from Dorico. Do you have access to any other software that allows you to easily change the program number for each track in a MIDI file to match the GM conventions, in which you could post-process the MIDI file exported from Dorico before you send it to your students?
