MIDI Files Ignore Sample Rate Mismatch?

I have a question regarding Sample Rate Mis-match Notification.

I recently start re-working a song from the early 2000s. The project was originally recorded in 44.1K. Almost 16 years later, my current system doesn’t even support 44.1K and I’d long forgotten about this change.

The core of the song is 100% MIDI. I loaded the files, along with a single stereo print of the original recording to use as a guide to rebuild the locate points. All was well until I started tracking my external synths. N12 sputtered during recording. I was recording one track at a time and it shut down with an error message sayint that I was trying to record too many tracks at once. On top of that, the analog files were a step lower than the MIDI files. It took me quite a while to figure out that it was a sample rate issue. This is because there was no indication of a Sample Rate Mismatch. There were no prompts to change the sample rate when I loaded the MIDI files. There was no orange indicator that something was off. I only found the alert when I opened the project setup page.

So my question is why is the sample rate mis-match notice only launched for audio files? They should show up regardless of the source material. If I load a 44k file into Nuendo, I’d like to know immediately if I need to change the rate to 48k or higher. That would save a lot of headaches.

If I’m wrong about this, is there some switch in preferences that I need to adjust to have this behave as requested. Or should this go onto the N15 Wish List?

I think your 16 year old audio track is at 44.1000Hz and therefore your systems hiccups.
Indeed it should be samplerate converted to whatever samplerate your setup is locked to (48K or higher).
You’ve probably changed this setting in your Preferences-window/Editing/Audio (at some point in time). You can set that to ‘never ask again’.
