Hi all,
In C13 Pro manual there is a mention of “MIDI Group” a couple of times. Can anyone explain to me what this is ?
Thx !
In which chapter did you find that term?
Hi,
I don’t see any MIDI Group in the manual.
Hi,
Could you send the link, please?
Hi Martin,
All you have to do is search for “MIDI group” either in the online manual or the downloaded pdf one…
and btw it’s in the Inspector Routing slot as well if you just hover over the channel input slot…
Hi,
This is related to the new MIDI 2.0 specification.
Flex Data Messages (Message Type 0xD) are used to send messages to a Channel, Group or a Function Block. New Flex Data Messages include Lyric and Text messages as well messages useful to the MIDI Clip Specification.
The Universal MIDI Packet introduces an optional Group field for messages. Each Message Type is defined to be addressed with a Group or without a Group field (“Groupless”).
Thanks Martin. I remember now. We used to discuss at MIDI org gatherings about having 16 groups of 16 MIDI channels. I did not know it had been implemented in MIDI 2.0. I’ve not looked into MIDI specs for awhile…
So I am assuming that Cubase supports MIDI 2.0 and UMP messages ? Do you know of any example of VST and/or hadware supporting it ?
VST plugins do not need to support MIDI 2.0. All the fancy stuff of MIDI 2.0 is already part of the VST3 specification for several years. However, some plugin makers might release updates as they have not made use of these advanced functionalities like “per note modulation” yet. But higher resolution, tight timing, packeted data transmission, bi-directional communication are features that you already enjoy with every VST3 instrument.
Search Google for hardware support but currently you need to use MacOS in order to be able to use this kind of hardware. Windows does not support MIDI 2.0 yet (support scheduled for later this year or next year).
Hi,
Unfortunately JUICE framework, which is widely used to write VST plug-ins, doesn’t support high-resolution MIDI Messages.
