MIDI Input editor misbehaving... 15.0.21

Using the MIDI Input function to change some notes in a sequence …

Quantize set at 16ths. 3 note chords.

I play the new chord on my midi controller and…

It deletes notes before and after the changed notes.

8th note quantize seems to work fine. Single notes in 16ths as well.

I use the function quite a bit and never saw this behavior…

Are you pressing three keys together or only one at a time?

I play the new triad. But chords work fine with 8th notes.

I tried to replicate your issue but it works fine on my side. Maybe you can share an example project where this issue occurs?

Here is the project I’m working on. The issue was on the piano track. The Miraculous Manarin

After the last post, I loaded the project on my scratchpad PC and the issue is the same. I quantized a section of the piano track and the issue persisted. I put in a new measure of chords in 16ths in an open section of the track and got the same result. But chords in 8th worked fine.

Thanks for sending the project file. Using it I get the same problem as you have. Using my own files / templates / create empties I don’t have the issue anymore. Thus I assume the root cause is stored in the project file itself. I could not find any “weird” settings in it though by looking at it in Cubase.
This is a strange one.

John,

That’s interesting… I’ve had issues with templates previously and rebuilding them would resolve the issue, but I built this project from scratch. I actually saved it as a template, too. So I guess I should rebuild it again.

Maybe you can create and use a brand new profile first. Then create an empty project from the hub. In that new project import the tracks from your template. Then save that as a new template.
Not sure if it’ll work.

Yes. That’s worth a try. Thank you.

OK… more interesting stuff.

  • I created a new project and imported the tracks from the original and the issue persists.
  • I changed the VST of the track from Halion 7 to UA Ravel piano (just for giggles). No change.
  • I exported the MIDI, made a new project, imported the MIDI file, deleted all but the piano track. Issue doesn’t occur in the ‘Piano’ project.
  • Imported that track into the ‘rebuilt’ original project. The issue continues on that track!!! Weird.

Here are the Piano project and MIDI file and a link to the rebuilt original:

Piano.mid (54.6 KB)

Piano.cpr (434.4 KB)

Rebuilt Original

Still more… I created a MIDI track in the ‘rebuilt’ file and copied the piano part to it. I selected a note on the track and played a chord and all the notes were gone, leaving only the new ones I played…
