Midi Input Gone

This may not be a Dorico question but I was working on a score and suddenly I cannot use the midi keyboard to input notes. The computer keyboard and mouse are working fine but when I bring up the input window and play notes on the midi keyboard nothing happens. Could I have hit a setting that is causing this? The midid keyboard is making sounds through my headphones but Dorico does not seem to “hear” my keyboard.

Any thoughts?

Thank you

I came up with the same question, here is the solution:

Has another program stolen control of the keyboard?

Gary,

I use a mixer to route my sound. If it is off when I start Dorico, it defaults to whatever is active in the OS (which usually produces silence)! I realize that your problem is input not output but wonder if this is a similar connection issue – that the connection is broken if you turn the keyboard off and doesn’t reset when it is turned on again.

As always, the first thing I try (after checking the connection) is to restart Dorico; the second is reboot! There is also an indicator in Dorico that shows that the MIDI data is coming through — is that showing anything?

Edit: Windows or Mac?

Jim,
Thanks so much for the reply. I am intrigued by your use of a mixer to route your audio. I think I will give that a try to help prevent future.
In this case, a reboot solved the issue and I am back up and running.
Thanks again.
Gary
