MIDI input not working when Logic is running - AKAI MPK

Hi there - I’m wondering if anyone has a work around for this problem I’m encountering. When using my Akai MPK mini as a controller, Dorico will not recognize MIDI for inputing notes if Logic Pro is running in the background. I am assuming that somehow, Logic is intercepting the MIDI from the MPK as it is also acting as a ‘control surface’ in Logic. This does not happen with my main Roland A88MkII controller (I can run Logic and Dorico fine at the same time, and MIDI works on both). Strangely, Dorico is clearly receiving MIDI, as it is playing back audio through my loaded VSTs when playing the controller - it just doesn’t work in Note Input. But as soon as I quit Logic, it works.

Anyone run across this? Thanks in advance.

I’m on MacOS 26.3.1 and Logic Pro 12.0.1, and Dorico 6.2.10.

I saw this chain, but not quite the same issue I think.

It could be that Logic has detected your MPK Mini as a control surface. In Logic, go to the control surface setup window, and if you see the MPK Mini listed in there, try removing it.

That’s absolutely what is happening - the MPK installs a driver to act as a control surface for Logic, and when disabling it, I can use the controller in both apps simultaneously. Unfortunate that I can’t use the control surface features (like transport), but I can live without for the ability to have both apps running at the same time. Thanks!
