Today i opened a Dorico project and tried to continue note input from yesterday using my midi keyboard. Now it is not working. I verified that MIDI notes are coming out of the keyboard using MIDI-OX.
Also of interest:
The MIDI input devices list in the preferences shows “2- Nord Stage 4 MIDI Output” and this selection is checked. There is no entry for MIDI input from the keyboard.
The insert cursor now has an icon above it I don’t recognize and can’t find in the documentation.
If that doesn’t show, it’s a horizontal rectangle with four “legs” pointing down.
As the caret appears to be at the start of a multi-bar rest, my guess is that the four “legs” are actually the rhythmic grid (squashed up because of the multi-bar rest).
OK, thanks. That rhythm grid was a red herring and I understand it now.
Still no MIDI input. I tried all MIDI channels just in case. That’s not it.
Isn’t this a bit weird (from the Preferences), an output port on the input port list and no input from the device?
Other things I can try are using the UR44 midi input port, trying a different USB MIDI keyboard, reinstalling Dorico as a last resort but I hesitate to reinstall in case this is an actual bug and the technical team wants some info while its happening. (yes, I know it’s probably a noob fumbling around thing…)
Hi @hairbear, don’t reinstall, but as Janus said, please post a diagnostics report.
And regarding the ports names, that is always a case of perspective. That what comes out of your NordStage’s MIDI out port, is from Dorico’s point of view input. So in the end quite logical, isn’t it?
Thanks for the data, @hairbear , but I can’t find anything suspicious in there, except that WinRT MIDI is enabled with you, but that as such should also not cause any trouble.
Do you have this problem only with one project or with every? In the Dorico window in the right/bottom corner a little green dot shall blink whenever Dorico receives MIDI. That does not do in your case? How about if you create a new project, same problem?
Do you have Dorico and Nuendo (or other Midi app) open at the same time? That may explain things. Apps can claim MIDI ports exclusively. Try quitting any other app and then launch Dorico, I strongly believe you will get MIDI input then.
I’ve now connected the Nord via physical MIDI cable to the UR44 (verified working via MIDI-OX). That isn’t seen in Dorico either. A day or two ago I created a new project and MIDI input worked. I cut and pasted from the original project and was able to do some work. That project now doesn’t accept MIDI input.
