Hello! I have a quick and simple question.
Is it possible to deactivate playback for a project and still be able to use a MIDI keyboard for note input? I am working on a large orchestral score and activated playback slows down the editing process noticeably in almost every respect (copy-pasting, nudging, undoing/redoing etc.). I want to be able to reactivate to audition only once in a while but have playback off the rest of the time without losing the MIDI input capability. Is that a thing?
You could try to apply the Silence Playback template. Then you have to switch if you want to listen, of course. Did you try if the MIDI keyboard works when Playback is deactivated?

Edit: Just tried with a virtual keyboard, and it doesn’t work if playback is deactivated.
I have done that with smaller projects but with this one it’s not an option (at least as far as my knowledge of the software goes).
The problem is that I have enabled independent voice playback for certain players and in some cases assigned different VSTs to different voices of the same player to achieve what I want playback wise (generally, I try to compensate for specific absent articulations in HSO by using a dedicated ‘playback only’ section player that has specific individual articulation patches or prerecorded sounds loaded; later, I remove the player from all layouts to print). The problem is that saving and endpoint with such a configuration and using that endpoint in a playback template later does not result in my meticulously arranged routing (rather, it duplicates VSTs where they aren’t needed).
So, in short – going ‘silence’ to ‘full sounds’ doesn’t do it for me here.
I just tested, and it appears deactivating a project basically pauses (among other things) the audio engine. That seems to include MIDI input as well - sorry.
