MIDI Key Editor Punch In/Replace Problem

I was working on a MIDI track in Cubase Pro 9.5.10. I wanted to do a Punch In recording in Replace Mode. Replace Mode wasn’t working, even though I had it set. Instead, my new notes were merging in with the notes that were already there.

I was working with the MIDI Key Editor open. This unwanted merge behavior happened whether “Record In Editor” was set or not set.

I finally figured out that Replace Mode does not work when the MIDI Key Editor is open. Replace Mode works fine when the MIDI Key editor is not open.

If the software engineers working on Cubase can’t make this work right, they should at least have Cubase pop up a warning when you try to use Replace Mode with the MIDI Key Editor open.

I was going to say, “It’s the least they can do.” But at the moment, they’re doing even less.
