I need some help. I have used 2 different midi keyboard controllers in the past with no problem at all. I have Cubase pro 12 and Windows 10. With my first 2 midi keyboards I simply plugged in the usb cable and I was able to use it on instrument tracks with Halion Sonic and such. I just purchased a new Akai Pro Mini 3. After plugging in the USB I am unable to hear it. I see the meter on my transport panal moving when I touch the keys and if I use the virtual piano keyboard on my computer screen I can hear the instrument, but nothing with the actual Akai keyboard. I have checked all of my Midi inputs and outputs and I think they are correct but nothing. I even uplugged the new one, closed Cubase and reloaded it after plugging the old midi keyboard in and even it is not giving me any sound. Has anyone had this problem and could you please give me some advice on some things to check? It’s probably something I’ve run incorrectly but I’m so frustrated now that I’m not thinking straight. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
In older versions (Cubase 12 included I think) you had to have a MIDI device plugged in and powered up before launching Cubase or it wouldn’t be detected.
Can you post a couple of screenshots. One of Studio Setup>MIDI Port Setup and also the Track’s Inspector showing it’s MIDI connections.
This tells me there is not an issue with the MIDI connection to Cubase.
In Studio Setup > MIDI Port Setup do you see your Akai device listed? If you look in the Inspector with your Instrument Track select, is the correct MIDI Input selected? Is Record Enable or Monitor turned on on the Instrument Track?
Thanks for advice on things to check. In Studio Setup-midi port Setup I did see the device. In the inspector I have tried both All MIDI In and my device with no change. Monitor and record enable are both clicked. At this point I’ve tried everything I know with no results. I appreciate your help and eventually I will hopefully figure it out.
Resolved! Went to preferences and under midi filter I clicked on default settings. I also changed my settings on my computer for windows sound from off to default sounds. Not sure which one did the trick but it works perfectly now!
