I’ve not used my midi keyboard for note entry in a long time and today I notice it’s not working.
I’ve been reading up on the posts online and worked my way through the recommended checks such as rebooting, unplugging/plugging in the cable, checking the Preferences etc. All seems to be as it should be.
What I do notice however when I start a new project and using note entry is that the little green circle appears at the bottom-right of the display when I attempt to play anything on my keyboard and stays on for the remainder of the session.
I hear the notes as I play them on my keyboard but they don’t appear on the score.
Obviously I don’t know a lot about this part of the software so any help would be much appreciated.
FYI the interface I use is a standard midi din to usb adaptor, which has worked flawlessly up until x weeks ago. I haven’t made any changes to my PC for a long time but who knows what Windows Updates gets up to in the background anymore.
If you can hear the notes when you play the keyboard, then MIDI in Windows is working fine, and updates didn’t do anything. So you should be good there.
Not that it really matters, but there’s no such thing as a “standard” DIN to USB adapter. I’ve found so many of those behave differently, perform differently, etc. There are definitely “families” of USB MIDI 1-in 1-out interfaces, but there are a lot of different families of them, as I found out during testing here.
Try activating Filter out MIDI controllers. It could be that your keyboard is flooding Dorico with active sensing data, or you have a dodgy connection in your modulation or pitch bend wheel that is causing them to send data continuously.
The other thing to try is changing the WinRT-MIDI setting in the Advanced Options section of the Play page of Preferences, then restarting Dorico.
