Midi Learn via Hardware CCs - Working solution

I’ve been struggling to get Midi Learn working with an external hardware device via MIDI CCs. I spoke to Cubase support who said that they would report the bug to the Dev team. The Cubase documentation isn’t great in this area, so I thought I’d share how I got it working in case anyone else is in the same boat.

Erica HD1 as the hardware controller

  1. ‘Create Device in MIDI Remote Mgr’
    Open MIDI Remote Manager
    Go to Studio → MIDI Remote Manager
    Click Add Surface → Create New → Custom MIDI Controller
    Name it something like “HD1 Hardware CCs”.
    Set MIDI Input Port to your MIDI In.

  2. ‘Learn the HD‑1 knob as a control’
    In the new surface, click “Add Control” → Knob.
    With that control selected, click “Learn”. (under Knob Properties, Message, then midi port icon, named Midi Monitor)
    Turn the HD‑1 knob you want to use (the one sending CC 76 on Ch 2).
    Cubase should detect it and show CC 76 as the source for that control. Double click the Learnt control which will assign it un Knob prperties

  3. ‘Step‑by‑step to link HD‑1 knobs to Galaxy Delay’
    Open Mapping Assistant.
    You’ll see your HD‑1 surface on the left and the Functions Browser on the right.
    Click one of your learned knobs in the HD‑1 grid (or touch it on the hardware).
    It will highlight in blue under “HD1 Control.”
    Select a Cubase function or plug‑in parameter
    Make sure the track hosting Galaxy Delay is selected in your project.
    Open the Galaxy Delay plug‑in window so Cubase knows it’s the “focused” plug‑in.
    To assign the mapping click the desired parameter on the VST (e.g., Delay Time).
    The grey Apply Mapping button (in mapping assistant) will light up — click it.
    Cubase now links that HD‑1 knob to the chosen Galaxy Delay parameter.
    Repeat for other knobs
    Select another HD‑1 control.
    Pick another Galaxy Delay parameter.
    Click Apply Mapping again.
    Save your configuration
    At the bottom, name the mapping (e.g., HD‑1 Galaxy Delay Map).
    Click the gear icon → Save Configuration.
